Keely Book a walk-through

Job 03 of 07 · Boats and instructors

Ready for the inspector, every day of the season

Every boat check and instructor ticket has a date, a document and a reminder. Put something out of date on a course and Keely warns you and asks for a reason, and keeps it on record.

A student helms a RIB across a harbour, her instructor beside her.

Boats

A list for every boat, with the next date on each line

Liferaft service, EPIRB, flares, gas, fire extinguishers, first aid and anything else you add. Start from our UK marine checklist and change it to suit each boat.

Attach the certificate to the check it proves and preview it in Keely without downloading it. Each boat keeps its maintenance history, so you can show when every check was last done.

Instructors

Instructor tickets, with reminders at 90, 30 and 7 days, and on the day

Instructors add the new certificate themselves, and nothing counts until a manager has checked it. Their own area shows their schedule, availability, blocked dates and tickets, with a feed for their own calendar app.

Who goes on which boat

Who goes on which boat

No lapsed liferaft goes out without someone deciding it can

Keely suggests a boat and an instructor and shows why. If you choose a boat with a lapsed check or an instructor without the right ticket, it warns you and asks for a reason. The decision stays yours.

The reason is kept and shown on that day's readiness, with your name and the time.

Rooms and classrooms

Book rooms by the day or by morning and afternoon, with the number of seats in each. Keely warns you when there are too many students for one instructor.

Incidents on the day

Weather, staffing and kit failures are written down against the day, with who logged them and when.

For the inspection

Every instructor's tickets in one download

Each instructor's qualifications and expiry dates in a single file, ready to hand over when the inspector asks.

Inspectors ask to see how you check staff qualifications and record expiry dates. This is the file you hand over.

Questions

What principals ask about boats and tickets

Does Keely make our boats compliant?

No. Your examiner and the code decide that. Keely keeps each boat's dates and documents, and shows you what is due next.

What does the Sport or Pleasure Code mean for our boats?

It has applied since 12 December 2025. Boats already coded move to it at their next scheduled renewal examination, or by 12 December 2028 if that is later (gov.uk). Keely does not make a boat compliant. It keeps each boat's dates and documents ready for the inspector, so you can see what is due and show the paperwork.

Will it stop us using a boat with a lapsed check?

No. It warns you and asks for a reason. The reason is kept and shown on that day's readiness, so the decision is yours and it is on record.

Can instructors update their own tickets?

Yes, from their phone, with a photo of the new certificate. Nothing changes until a manager has checked it.

We have our own checklist. Do we have to use yours?

No. Start from the UK marine checklist if it helps, then add your own items to each boat.

All questions

Instructors add their Keely schedule to the calendar app on their phone, so the week's courses sit beside everything else they have on.
